Nov 21 the new apt.

Woke up and realized that I was in my new home/apartment in South Korea. So excited, and pleased that the love motel is no more. Even though we did not have internet our first weekend in the apartment at least we have our own place. When Max and I woke up we decided to go to the grocery store to get some American staples and other needs for the apartment. Just to note, although the tenants before us did a semi-cleaning job it is still pretty dirty and really dusty. Anyone have any ideas for an effective way of dusting without a duster? Moving on, we walked to the grocery store which is only a 5 minute walk and bought our grocery’s. Very overwhelming and fun at the same time. We went down each aisle and asked ourselves do we need this or that. And if one of us say yes and the other said no, we did rock, paper, scissors, which is huge in Korea. Everyone from 4 year olds up to adults play this game to make decisions. It is really funny to see how excited my students get when I tell them they can play that game. However, back to the grocery store, it was a little expensive, but well needed. We had so much stuff that we tried to take the cart back with us and then return it after, but of course a guard came running after us and made us carry all of our grocery’s to our apartment. That five minute walk took 15 minutes, but we made it. We unloaded our groceries and then Max made some eggs. After our delicious American breakfast, we proceeded to clean and unpack trying to make our apartment livable and threw any unnecessary crap that other people had left here. I think we succeeded. Looking at our new home we decided that we had been in it all day and went on a little field trip the Youbang tower (spelling incorrect). It is 153 meters tall and overlooks the whole city. We tried to make it for sunset, but ended missing most because we didn’t realize how far away it was. However, we made it there took the elevator to the top and wow the views were breathtaking. We did not realize how big Daegu actually was. It is huge!!! With the mountains surrounding it and tall buildings the views are indescribable. We stayed there for about an hour and then headed back home and got ready for the night. First we went to our favorite Korean BBQ restaurant that is very close to our apartment. Then we headed to downtown where we met up with our new Korean friends that we met on Thursday. They took us to a place called MK club, which is 99% Koreans. Just what Max and I had been looking for. Let me tell you this place was a scene. American hip hop, with a bunch of Koreans dancing to the beat because none of them knew the words. It was a blast. Drinks were pretty expensive, the wallet a lot lighter, however no regrets because it was an awesome night. At 2 AM a Korean rap group performed and the Koreans went wild! One thing we noticed, is that before 1 guys only danced around each other and girls the same. After that they started to dance with each other. Koreans know how to party and they do it for a long time. Max and I came back around 3:30 and passed out. What a great day in Korea!
